At Risk Program - Melissa Thomas & Stacey Frederick - Program Coordinators

This program is geared towards our teenagers. Residents receive At Risk Education 1-2 times a week based on availability of personnel and time. Areas highlighted in this program include: Abstinence, Teenage Couples, Character Building, Bullying, Stress, Smoking, Problem Solving, Anger Management, Health and Fitness, Social Skills, Substance Abuse, Peer-Pressure, Decision Making, Money/Budgeting and Life skills (cooking, cleaning, day to day events).

Activities are conducted with trained AFH staff but assistance is needed to lead discussions, develop and conduct activities, and to mentor the children. If you have experience in any of the above areas please contact us to see how you can help!

Family Visitation Program - Melissa Thomas, Program Coordinator

The State of Georgia has initiated a program for children in foster care called "Level of Care". One of the main aspects of this program is to ensure that children who are in foster care will be able to receive family contact, from family members who have been approved by the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS).

Our goal is to help families in need to become strong independent families again. AFH will accomplish this by having supervised week night family visits for our children, which will be held at A Friend's House. We will have the visitation in hour and a half block increments, with four volunteers per block of time. An AFH staff member will be present at all times to oversee the visitation program.

We are in need of your help. Volunteers must be willing to donate 1 to 2 sesssions a month. AFH will provide all necessary training.

Volunteers working in this program must complete our volunteer orientation. Questions concerning this program can be asked of Melissa Thomas 678-432-1630 x 201. Other volunteer opportunities should be directed to Elaine Epps 678-432-1630 x 216.

Music Program - Stacey Frederick, Program Coordinator

Music seems to be an interest for a majority of our residents. AFH would like to execute a steady music program for our children, but we need your help. At this time, we have a piano and a keyboard that are always accessible to the children. We also have a few instruments used for teaching younger children. These items are wonderful to have, but are rarely utilized by our staff.

AFH could use anyone willing to conduct piano lessons, lead sing-a-long groups or chaperone musically themed field trips.
